    Full-time position with the Health Department, Behavioral Health and Injury Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost
    Salary Range: $4,619-$6,928/month
    Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. *Hours may vary based on program needs

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for coordinating the Kansas City Health Department's youth violence prevention services, including the Y-Chat call line, community events, and more.
    • Develop and supervise a small team of Youth Violence Prevention Professionals to ensure high-quality, effective service delivery.
    • Work directly with youth and the broader community to promote youth violence prevention strategies.
    • Employees in this role should expect to spend significant time inside various schools across Kansas City. This position works non-traditional days and hours, and the employee's schedule will vary week to week; the employee must be flexible and able to work on-call on a rotating schedule.
    • Develops and supervises a team of Youth Violence Prevention Professionals trained in alternative dispute resolution, case management, violence interruption, and other violence prevention techniques.
    • Aids in all activities relating to the Health Department's youth violence prevention services, including clerical work, accounting, budgeting, personnel, and procurement.
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, community leaders, and the public.
    • Builds relationships between the Kansas City Health Department and faith-based organizations, non-profit organizations, businesses, hospitals, and schools.
    • Organizes and facilitates trainings related to youth violence prevention for Health Department personnel, City personnel, schools, community organizations, and the public.
    • Provides conflict resolution, mediation and restorative justice trainings for program staff.
    • Responds to Y-Chat Line calls and makes referrals when appropriate.
    • Provides triage services to callers and keeps them engaged toward de-escalation or needed services.
    • Works directly with youth in the school environment to disrupt potential incidents of violence and initiate behavioral change.
    • Works with youth to determine and address the root causes of their behavior.
    • Develops and implements plans to address social determinants of health, such as food access, housing, transportation, public safety, and education.
    • Organizes and facilitates community events to promote youth violence prevention strategies.
    • Presents information about the Health Department's youth violence prevention efforts both orally and in writing in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
    • Assists in designing and implementing data collection and documentation strategies.
    • Aids in the collection and dissemination of data relating to the Health Department's youth violence prevention efforts.
    • Collects and maintains documentation of all contacts and outcomes of calls.
    • Prepares informational material and other reports.
    • Attends mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and conflict de-escalation training.
    • Performs other duties as required.



    Qualifications

    REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional experience in business or public sector administration to include at least 2 years performing administrative and/or supervisory work involving more complex projects or programs; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience with at least 2 years performing administrative and/or supervisory work involving more complex projects or programs.

    Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

    The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
    For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
    Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

    If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
