The Environmental Services Intern reports to an assigned Environmental Services Manager (Water Production, Wastewater Treatment, or Laboratory). This position provides an engineering student with practical working experience in the Public Sector as they study to obtain a degree in Environmental Engineering or other related field. The intern evaluates data related to water production and wastewater treatment, assists with laboratory analyses, and documents progress of construction projects.
Key Responsibilities - Learns the inner workings of the City’s Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities, by assisting the Operations Managers and Process Operators.
- Gains experience with a variety of software such as Microsoft Office, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Masters process control tests using the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater.
- Collects and analyzes data used for troubleshooting, process improvements, or submittal to a government agency such as the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
- Monitors construction projects and assist in the documentation process.
- Networks with industry professionals through projects and professional organizations such as the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and American Water Works Association (AWWA).
Qualifications Experience : Entry level experience in Environmental Engineering, Civil Project Management or related fields is preferred. Attention to detail is critical and the successful candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Excel.
Education :The candidate must be a college student currently pursuing a related degree. Study in environmental engineering is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and a favorable driving record are required.
