What does the Watershed Protection Department do?
POSITION OVERVIEW :The Watershed Protection Department maintains the stormwater infrastructure network for the City of Austin, including drainage pipes, inlets, headwalls, and stormwater control measures (ponds). Location, size, age, and elevation information for these assets are tracked in a detailed spatial dataset ( GIS ). The purpose of this position is to perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance for data entry on WPD’s stormwater infrastructure GIS dataset. This position performs queries of enterprise systems to learn about new construction and maintenance projects that modify stormwater infrastructure assets. This position assigns work to IT Geospatial Analysts, answers questions about data entry, maintains data entry standards, and acts as a liaison to internal and external users of the Stormwater Infrastructure GIS data. This position acts as Team Leader for the construction plan data entry program.

Pay Range
$32.23 - $40.29
Hours
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule per week after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.
May require working outside of normal business hours, including emergency events, evenings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business needs.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.Designs, implements, and/or performs data management activities such as modifying elements and assigning privileges. Performs programming activities such as design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and modification of geospatial applications. Analyzes data from various sources to produce data sets, cartographic layouts, and reports in accordance with specifications and standards. Researches and interprets source records and documents. Performs business process analysis, develops alternatives, and makes recommendations. Responds to requests for information from internal and external customers. Assists with the creation, publication, implementation, and improvement of IT policies, governance, standards, and security. Installs new software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing, and implementing new geospatial technology. Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor, and user communities.
