    The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Public Works, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Environmental Health Services, Parks, and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well-being of Solano County's present and future residents and the public at-large through administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to transportation, building construction, land use planning environmental health, and recreation.

    The Position

    Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and assists the Director of Resource Management in formulating and implementing the department’s policies, goals and objectives of the department, specifically of Public Works and Engineering, Public Works Operations, and Parks ad Recreation . Serves as a member of the county’s management team. This position is responsible for managing and monitoring the internal operations of the department directly and through subordinate managers and for ensuring the delivery of the department’s services to the public in compliance with county, state and federal rules, regulations and policies.

    This position is an “at-will” position and is exempt from the civil service; incumbents serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university preferably in Urban Planning, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Management, Recreation Management, Business Administration, or other closely related field; AND

    Experience: Five years of management and supervisory experience in one or more of the following areas in a governmental public agency: environmental health management; building codes, permits and construction; public land use planning; parks and recreation; and/or transportation. Two years of the experience must have included involvement with program evaluation, budget development, contract management, performance management and personnel management.
    LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS :
    • Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, Class C.
    • Note: All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class.

    Solano County seeks a motivated, innovative, and highly skilled leader for the Assistant Director of Resource Management - Public Works and Parks & Recreation role. The ideal candidate brings proven expertise in public works, infrastructure planning, and parks management, with strong fiscal, managerial, and project oversight skills.

    This role requires a strategic thinker and problem solver who can lead diverse teams, manage complex capital planning projects and land-use initiatives, optimize resources, and enhance public spaces. The candidate must be financially savvy, adept at stakeholder engagement, and committed to improving infrastructure and recreational services. A collaborative, community-minded and results-driven professional, the Assistant will play a key role in shaping Solano County’s transportation, public works, and park systems for long-term sustainability and community benefit.
