THE MERIT SYSTEM AND THE PERSONNEL COMMISSION
The San Mateo County Office of Education has utilized the Merit System since 1966 to ensure that classified employees are selected, promoted and retained without favoritism or prejudice. The Personnel Commission oversees a Civil Service (Merit) System of personnel management for San Mateo County Office of Education employees. The Merit System is a method of personnel management which is designed to promote the efficiency and economy of the workforce and the good of the public by providing for the selection and retention of employees, promotional opportunities, in-service training, and other related matters on the basis of merit, fitness, and the principle of “like pay for like work."

Requirements / QualificationsContract Terms: August 25th, 2025 to May 12th, 2026 (excluding one week for Veteran's Day, one week for Thanksgiving, three weeks for Winter Break, and Spring Break).Compensation: $888/week , which includes a stipend of $660 per week and an additional $228/week allocated for housing in a private room within a shared house for the contract duration. Meals will be provided on weekdays. This is an internship position; no health benefits, retirement, or paid time off are provided. This internship includes three weeks of paid training, weekly professional development, and a stipend to cover the Spring AEOE Conference.Qualifications: Experience working with students, interest in building a shared community, openness to learn and grow as an educator and community member. PERSONNEL COMMISSION MISSION
To recruit, select and promote highly qualified employees using valid and innovative skills assessment examinations and selection procedures; to compensate classified employees based on the Merit System principle of equal pay for equal work; to provide exceptional customer service; and to implement personnel management programs that align with and support the mission and goals of the Personnel Commission and the San Mateo County Office of Education.
