Senior Electrician vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Senior Electrician position. DEFINITION :Under the direction of an Electrician Supervisor, provides lead-supervision and participates in the work of an electrical crew comprised of two to four journey-level and sub-journey-level positions.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :Positions allocable to this class report to an Electrician Supervisor, provide lead-supervision, and participate in the work of an electrical crew comprised of two to four journey-level and sub-journey-level positions. Incumbents must have a thorough knowledge of the electrical craft performed by subordinates and have an ability to exercise the basic principles of supervision.
Essential Job Functions- Assigns, supervises and inspects the work of a small crew of electricians, apprentices and helpers in the installation, alteration and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
- Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.
- Determines work methods and types of materials to be used.
- Orders and maintains a stock of materials and supplies.
- Ensures that code requirements, safety regulations and safe work practices are observed.
- Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Maintains work records.
- Performs the work of a journey-level electrician.
- Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites in order to transport the necessary tools, equipment, and materials required to perform the job.
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Five (5) years of experience in the installation, alteration and repair of commercial and industrial electrical wiring systems and equipment, one (1) year of which must have been at the journey-level.*
LICENSE INFORMATION:A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.**
A City of Los Angeles Regulation 4 Certificate may be required for testing Life/Safety systems in County buildings located within the city limits of Los Angeles. Life/Safety systems are defined as: fire alarms, automatic-closing fire assemblies, elevator recall, fire suppression, and emergency power systems.

PHYSICAL CLASS :Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS : VISION - Keen color perception.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.
