    Minimum Qualifications
    This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:


    Power Plant Technician Senior:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years experience performing a maintenance or operations craft in a power plant or heavy industrial environment.
    • Associates Degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    None.

    Power Plant Specialist:
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent and five (5) years experience performing a maintenance or operations craft in a power plant or heavy industrial environment.
    • Associates Degree may be substituted for two years of experience.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    None.

    Power Plant Specialist Senior
    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent and eight (8) years experience performing a maintenance or operations craft in a power plant or heavy industrial environment.
    • Associates Degree may be substituted for two years of experience.

    None.
    Notes to Applicants
    This position reports to Sand Hill Energy Center. This position will require under minimal supervision, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment problems related to electric generating plants in the craft of electrical and or instrumentation and control. Ability to operate power plant equipment and provide and utilized appropriate documentation and system updates of work orders. Develop work plans by researching and determining operational or equipment repair requirements

    The minimum physical demands for working in this position are: Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor/dust hazards, electrical hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying/lifting up to a minimum of 50 lbs, and indoor activity.

    The work hours for this position will vary depending on business need, and may require overtime hours extending beyond the end of the regularly scheduled work shift and on weekends.

    This position requires Arc Flash Safety training.

    This position is essential to the City of Austin and may require weekends and overnight hours.
    This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations.     The Power plant is a 24/7 operation. Work hours may change according to departmental needs. Work hours may include after core hours of operation, holidays, and weekends.

    City Government
