We receive calls from patients and clinical staff inquiring about medical coverage and eligibility. When fully staffed, we have a total of 4 Patient Financial Services Specialist also referred to as Financial Counselors. They are a very devoted and experienced group of individuals, responsible for handling 700 - 900 calls per week. Our unit also works closely with the Centralized Appointments unit to ensure patients have coverage and/or eligibility for Medi-Cal, Medicare, Basic Healthcare Coverage and other such programs before allowing a patient to schedule an appointment.
We are seeking to fill our vacant Patient Financial Services Specialist position to support the patient financial services team who is dedicated to servicing our patients with top-tier customer service and compassion.

What you will typically be responsible for: - Primarily responsible for handling inbound calls from patients, clinical staff, and various agencies
- Interviewing patients to identify eligibility for Federal, State, and County medical coverages
- Utilizing multiple systems to verify existing insurance coverages to determine eligibility
- Creating and submitting appropriate referrals
- Contacting Medi-Cal and private insurance agencies to assist patients in obtaining status of pending coverage
- Following up on unpaid accounts upon receiving patient inquiries and sending out various correspondence letters
- Reviewing referrals for patients who require appointments but do not have insurance or are having issues with coverage
- Educating patients regarding available options to reimburse the County for health care services

Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License and/or ability to provide suitable transportation as approved by the appointing authority may be required for some positions in this classification. Out of state Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Applicants are required to attach a copy of their license to their application. Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time or its equivalent experience in public contact which involved processing financial or personal history documents and interpreting applicable laws, rules or regulations.
Desirable Qualifications:- Experience using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Excel and Office 365
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholder as well other Health Services Divisions and Departments
Selection ProcessApplication Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
Remote Oral Interview: Candidates that clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a remote oral interview. The assessment is designed to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. The oral interview will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to: Attention to Detail, Valuing Diversity, Critical Thinking and Customer Focus (Weighted 100%). Candidates must achieve a passing score on each of the competencies to pass the overall assessment and be placed on the eligible list.
The assessments may be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. TENTATIVE EXAM DATES Week of March 31 st , 2025
