The Communications Specialist helps make valuable contributions to the lives of Larimer County citizens today and in the future by developing and implementing the Elections division’s communications strategy.
This position will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at our office in Old Town, Fort Collins. Also, during election cycles, weekend and holiday work may be necessary.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Developing and implementing internal and external communication plans and strategies.
- Facilitating and coordinating communication activities, such as newsletters, grant and award application emails, texting, public relations, community engagement, press releases, and other communications.
- Developing, managing, and analyzing web and social media content while ensuring compliance with all policies, communication guidelines, and brand standards, both internal and external.
- Editing communications materials written by staff and ensuring all communications adhere to Department/Office and County standards.
- Monitoring external communication sources, including news and social media, to identify relevant Elections information and potential misinformation and preparing a communication strategy in response.
- Coordinating news conferences, radio, television, and print interviews as directed.
- Supporting other divisions of the Clerk & Recorder’s office as directed.

- Is available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, sometimes on short notice.
- Delivers effective public speaking to diverse audiences.
- Applies communication best practices, including design, development, and management of user-generated content
QualificationsTo move forward in the hiring process, candidates must meet the required minimum qualifications. - Two (2) years of experience working with design programs, such as Indesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop required.
- Three (3) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility and around the community as needed and required.
