    Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.

    The Office of Data System Management is responsible for the development and implementation of the Missouri Comprehensive Data System (MCDS) which will include the student-level record system. Core Data and the Missouri Student Information System Core Data/MOSIS, a web-based data collection system of education-related statistics; and Grants & Planning, an instrument provided to schools to assist with federal grant applications and program planning. The Data Portal also maintains the P-20 longitudinal data system used for research of student progress and achievement, postsecondary and workforce preparation, etc. In addition, the office collects and generates data to meet federal reporting requirements and compliance, as well as provide data utilized in research and analysis that impacts policy decision-making.

    • Design, create, and maintain data visualizations using graphical tools such as Tableau.
    • Determine sources for obtaining data and then extract, clean, and interpret data as needed.
    • Create advanced queries using Microsoft SQL or similar tools.
    • Consults with program staff and various levels of administration in planning and implementing data research and evaluation of projects.
    • Provide business and technical guidance for sharing of department data through web-based reporting, business intelligence, and ad-hoc data requests.
    • Protect sensitive data by understanding state and federal laws pertaining to education data.
    • Express concepts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with DESE leadership, information technology, local education agencies, researchers, legislative, and various other state agencies.
    • Assist with the creation, tracking and/or managing of data sharing agreements with entities outside the Department.
    • Coordinate with various state agencies and vendors to facilitate accurate and timely data transfers.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Information Technology, or closely related field.


    OR

    • 4 years of experience with data reporting, data management, data quality, data research, data visualization, and communicating orally and in writing with internal and external customers, and thepossession of a high school diploma or equivalency.
