    Under general direction, the Defensible Space Inspector is responsible for coordinating and conducting defensible space inspections, assisting with the presentation of educational programs to the public, and maintaining records and data on defensible space inspections. The Defensible Space Inspector is characterized by the responsibility to assist the Fire Marshal in support fire prevention activities and other related work.

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill several extra help vacancies assisting Napa County Fire. The Defensible Space Inspector vacancy is not a full-time position. This vacancy is for a seasonal position with limited benefits.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

    Experience: Three (3) months of experience in forestry, fire prevention, fire suppression and control, natural resource management, or closely related field.

    Education: Equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.

    License or Certificate*: Possession of a valid CA Driver's License is desirable.

    *Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

    CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEE BENEFITS INFORMATION

    SALARY -
    Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.

    CONFIDENTIAL -
    $300.00 per month confidential pay ($150.00 paid twice monthly). The County contributes a proportionate amount of this pay for employees in less than full-time positions.

    A general law county, Napa County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors elected by district for four year terms. The Board of Supervisors appoints a County Executive Officer who is responsible for providing overall management for the County’s operations, including day-to-day supervision of the County’s appointed department heads.
