    DUTIES

    Office Trainee Delivery Drivers receive intensive on-the-job instruction and training, and experience as a trainee under close supervision operating a City automobile, station wagon, van, pickup truck, or other light vehicles as a major assignment in delivering and picking up mail, supplies, and department materials; may collect water samples from designated locations for use in laboratory tests; keep routine records and prepare routine reports; perform routine clerical, messenger, or stockroom duties part of the time.

    NOTES :

    Employees employed as Office Trainee Delivery Drivers are appointed to positions which are designated as temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners. Employment as Office Trainees is limited to 6 months of on-the-job training, not to exceed the maximum of 24 months. Upon successful completion of the on-the-job training program and receipt of a letter of recommendation from an employing City department, incumbents will receive a regular appointment to an Assistant classification and begin a six-month probationary period. New appointees who do not successfully complete the temporary training period will be terminated from the class.

    The Office Trainee Delivery Driver class will be utilized for the duration of official City of Los Angeles employment programs solely as a pathway for program participants to eventually transition to a full-time regular appointment as Delivery Driver.

    REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

    REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Current participation in an official City of Los Angeles employment program; and
    A letter of recommendation from the personnel office of the employing City department, which includes a statement on the department’s willingness to hire the employee as an Office Trainee. The letter must be attached to the application at the time of filing.

    PROCESS NOTE

    Appointments to the class of Office Trainee Delivery Driver, Class Code 1101-D, will be made to temporary training positions in accordance with Section 5.30 of the Rules of the Board of Civil Service Commissioners for a maximum duration of five years. New appointees who do not successfully complete the temporary training period will be terminated from the class.
    The positions of Office Trainee Delivery Driver in the department of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Building and Safety, Cultural Affairs, General Services, Harbor (Port of Los Angeles), Library, and Public Works - Bureau of Sanitation require a valid Class C license issued by California's Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment. Candidates will not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI.

    The examination will consist entirely of review of candidates' City employment application by Personnel Department staff to ensure that minimum requirements are met. Since these reviews will be made solely on the basis of the written information contained on the candidate's City employment application, it is each candidate's responsibility to ensure that the application is complete with accurate descriptions of relevant experience.

    Individuals appointed to the class of Office Trainee Delivery Driver will receive on-the-job training to assist them with developing the critical competencies required for successful performance in the targeted, regular civil service classifications of Delivery Driver. Candidates in the examination process may file protests as provided in Sec. 4.20, 4.22 and 4.23 as applicable and within the required time frame; however, the Personnel Department may respond to and resolve protests prior to the establishment of the eligible list.


    Notice :

    If you receive and accept an offer of employment to a regular position with the City of Los Angeles, your employee benefit coverage (including health and dental coverage as well as life insurance) will commence approximately six weeks after your original regular appointment. Not all positions in the City receive benefit coverage; you should inquire regarding the availability of employee benefits prior to accepting a position.
