One Irvine Workforce Youth Service Corps Summer High School Program - Empowering the next generation of community leaders! (Hourly rate increases to $20 an hour on June 21.)
Are you a motivated and customer-focused high school student who wants to give back to your community? The City of Irvine is hiring Community Services Leaders to assist with summer camps, sports programs, athletic field prep, arts programs, special events, and facility operations at the City's premier community parks and facilities.
Community Services Leaders work an average of 20 hours per week. Schedules are flexible with shifts scheduled during these core hours: weekdays, 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m. and weekends, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
This is a seasonal summer position and the program period will run May 27-August 8, 2025. Must be 16 years old by June 1 .
This program provides valuable on-the-job training as well as mentorship and skill development opportunities in the areas of:
- Career-readiness and interviewing
- Leadership and customer service
- Goal-setting and organization
- Business communication and etiquette
- Critical thinking and decision-making
- Financial literacy and money management, and more!

This program is part of the Californians for All Youth Service Corps grant and prioritizes hiring youth who may not have access to traditional career-building resources. Priority will be given to applicants who meet at least two of the following:
- Are unemployed and/or out of school during program period.
- Are low-income.
- May have difficulty finding employment.
- Are first generation students planning to go to college.
- Are in or transitioning from foster care.
- Are or were engaged with a mental health or substance abuse system.
- Are or were justice-involved.
- Have not participated in an AmeriCorps program.

I nterview: After a thorough review of applications, those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their application will be invited to an interview.
Background Check : References and a background check will be conducted prior to appointment.
Medical Examination: A medical examination will be conducted, including a drug/alcohol screening and proof of a negative TB test to ensure the ability to perform assigned duties. The City of Irvine must provide a safe and drug-free workplace. Any applicant who tests positive or tampers with evidence shall be disqualified from consideration.

Part-time employees are employed "at will" and their services can be discontinued without cause. Employees in seasonal assignments work as needed during seasonal periods and will not receive an annual performance appraisal.
