Full-time position available with the Health Department, Communicable Disease Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $32.38-$48.56/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Works under minimal supervision from the Division Manager, Communicable Disease Prevention and accepts clinical supervision from the Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner.
- Utilizes a wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative within the Nursing Program.
- Supervises other Public Health Nurses within the Department in Tuberculosis.
- Wears a high efficiency respirator mask and other personal protective equipment when delivering services within an area assessed as high risk for exposure to infectious diseases occasionally.
- Lifts of up to 50 pounds when assisting with community and clinic-based activities.
- Climbs stairs to access client residents is essential.
- Assures that subordinate Public Health Nurses of the Program are properly trained for conducting their responsibilities in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assures that access to all relevant laws and ordinances that impact the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position are maintained and available for reference.
- Assists the Program Manager, Communicable Disease Surveillance, the Epi Specialists, and the Emergency Response Planners in the investigation of all outbreaks that require epidemiological follow-up, coordinating nursing staff efforts to support other clinical activities for the Division and the Department.
- Conducts field visits, medical record searches, and solicit medical information from all mandated sources, including interviewing clients as necessary to obtain required information.
- Provides direct services to clients utilizing nursing assessment skills, nursing processes and following City ordinance, CDC and Missouri Department of Health guidelines and American Thoracic Society recommendations as well as local policies and procedures.
- Ensures that all supplies and equipment are available and function properly for clinic sessions and home visitations.
- Assures the accuracy of medication counts and labeling for patients.
- Ensures that clinic appointments are scheduled and that clinical records, complete, charted and up to date, are available for appropriate clinic sessions.
Qualifications
REQUIRES completion of an ADN or diploma program in nursing and 2 years of experience as a registered nurse; OR registration or certification as a nurse practitioner or nurse clinician from a program recognized by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Possession of a current license or temporary permit (for transfers from other states) as a registered nurse as issued by the Missouri Board of Nursing. A current license must be obtained by transfers within six months of the date of the permit issuance. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen prescribed by the City. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
