Ecological Resource Specialist who is responsible for managing and conducting ecological and biological duties such as performing wildlife (including threatened and endangered species) surveys; performing biological assessments; report writing; preparation of ecological management plans; and providing biological knowledge and insight to aide in capital improvement, routine maintenance, and restoration projects.

Benefits By Occ upation al Unit: Administrative Services CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMEN TBackground: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County and occasional overnight travel may be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required and must be maintained.
Licensing/Certification: Within 12 months of hire, the incumbent must apply for a Scientific Collecting Permit (SCP) from California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The SCP allows for scientific handling/collection of native and non-native species.
Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsCandidates must meet both the education and experience requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in the natural or environmental sciences.
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience conducting and preparing biological assessments encompassing the identification of western birds, mammals, plants, and reptiles.
Substitution : Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed graduate level coursework may substitute for maximum of one (1) year of the required experience.
Desired QualificationsExperience with plant life and wildlife indigenous to the diverse regions of the Southwestern United States, as well as specific knowledge of the plant life and wildlife of San Bernardino County and its surrounding regions
is preferred and should be referenced in work history and responses to supplemental questions.Candidates who possess any of the following are highly desirable and encouraged to apply:
- A permit to work with and trap a particular species or suite of species
- Significant demonstrable field experience in trapping or protocol survey for one or more species
- A certificate, license, or demonstrable experience in a particular biological discipline relevant to the work performed by the County
