This position will be located at the Missouri Geological Survey, 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO, 65401, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
As a Geologist, you will support the Missouri Geological Survey, Geological Survey Program and Missouri University of Science and Technology activities related to critical minerals research in Missouri. You will use and maintain analytical equipment that scans and characterizes rock core samples, leading to a better understanding of our geologic resources and critical mineral potential. You will work with Program geologists and technicians to prioritize, transport, and scan rock core. You will analyze and effectively communicate the results of the scans. You will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include Technical Competency, Service, Professionalism, Ingenuity, and Cooperation and the mission and values of the Division and Department.
- Use analytical equipment and software to process, scan, and analyze rock core samples
- Transport and prepare rock core for scanning
- Assess and re-box core as needed
- Maintain analytical equipment and software
- Coordinate with geologists, technicians, and University personnel to assemble reports and prioritize work
- Use and maintain other types of analytical equipment as appropriate

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, or closely related field and have completed, at a minimum, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology including coursework required by the Missouri Board of Geologist Registration.
- This position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds, work alone in remote areas, walk long distances in hilly and rugged terrain, climb steep slopes, carry geologic specimens out of the field, and use tools such as shovels, hand augers, and hammers.
