The instructor will follow a structured curriculum, monitor student progress, and ensure a safe and engaging learning environment. This role requires strong swimming skills, patience, and the ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
Minimum Qualifications:- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a background check and urine drug screening.
- At least one year of swim lesson teaching experience or competitive swimming experience at a high school or higher level (Preferred).
- Strong knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to demonstrate swimming techniques effectively.
- Must be comfortable working with children and adults of all ages and ability levels.
- Ability to work outdoors in poolside conditions up to 95% of the time, exposed to sunlight, humidity, and temperatures ranging from 60 to over 100 degrees.
- Must be able to spend extended periods of time in the water.
- Strong verbal communication skills to effectively instruct participants and engage with parents.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
Required Certifications, Licenses, and Training:(Certifications may be obtained after hiring if not already held.)
- American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED Certification (Training provided).
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification (Training provided).
Work Schedule:- Swim instructors must be available for scheduled swim lesson sessions lasting two continuous weeks.
- Required to prepare lesson plans at least 30 minutes before class.
- Availability required for mornings, evenings, and some weekends based on lesson schedules.
Essential Job Responsibilities:- Follow and implement the designed swim lesson curriculum.
- Set and track individualized progression goals for participants.
- Lead and motivate participants in a positive and encouraging manner.
- Clearly communicate with students, parents, and staff regarding progress and expectations.
- Evaluate participant performance and progress throughout lessons.
- Maintain accurate attendance and progress records for lessons.
- Educate swimmers on water safety and life-saving principles.
- Teach proper swimming strokes and techniques using industry-leading standards.
- Ensure that pool areas remain safe, clean, and free of hazards.
- Respond swiftly to poolside and in-water emergencies in coordination with the facility’s safety team.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
