Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
·Assists in the occupancy classification of plans based on fire hazards, Hazardous materials and reviews plans for compliance with adopted fire and building code requirements.
·Conducts residential, commercial and industrial plan reviews of various types of fire protection systems, including verification of hydraulic design.
·Assists building inspectors and fire inspectors with field reviews of structures to determine proper installation, materials, or equipment.
·Research alternate products, materials, and methods of construction for compliance, and make recommendations to the Building Official or designee.
·Provides quality customer service while functioning in a regulatory capacity. Assist customers at the Development Service Department counter.
·Provide pre-application (PAC) site plan reviews for new projects.
·Responsible for assuring the compliance of systems, such as fire sprinkler and alarm systems, high piled combustible storage, hazardous storage and processes, City Construction Code as well as additional County, Town, State, and Federal regulations.
·Attend Pre-Application Conferences and other city meetings.
·Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications & Position RequirementsEducation and Experience:Associates degree, bachelor’s degree preferred in building construction, engineering, architecture, fire science or related field; or five (5) years’ experience in plan review, building inspection, fire inspections or construction contracting management; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. ICC fire plans reviewer certification is preferred.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression techniques.
- Principles and practices of building inspection for fire safety compliance.
- The principles of record keeping and records management.

- Interpreting and explaining laws and regulations.
- Detecting deficiencies in fire protection and prevention equipment and materials.

- Effective oral and written communication.
- Reviewing of site plans, building plans and fire protection systems.
Ability to:
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Apply engineering knowledge and follow proper plan check techniques to examine workmanship, materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
- Read and interpret legal and property descriptions, ordinance and code documents, technical and instructional documents, and building plans, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances.
- Explain code requirements and plan review procedures to persons with various backgrounds.
- Successfully resolve problems with a diverse group of people.
- Work independently and perform tasks involving numerous details.
- Concentrate and be accurate in the complete analysis and interpretation of a set of highly technical construction documents.
- Perform mathematical and engineering calculations relating to the review of construction and building plans and blueprints.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
12 Month Goals: Master the Buckeye specific code amendments.Obtain one commercial plan reviewer or inspector certification.Become proficient at utilizing Bluebeam and Energov.Become a go-to resource for Fire Code related questions.
Additional InformationSpecial Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License. Possession of a minimum of one (1) of the following Certifications: Commercial Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Inspector, Fire inspector I or II, Fire or Building or Fire Plans Examiner at time of hire. Obtain and maintain an additional International Code Council (ICC) certification within one year of hire
