DescriptionThe City of Santa Clara and Mission College are partnering for a Student Internship Program for Summer 2025. The City is looking for Student Intern II's to perform work in various departments Citywide. As part of this program, Student Intern II's are required to be currently enrolled in Mission College (proof of enrollment will be required). The 2025 Summer Internship Program will run from June 2025 - August 2025.

Community Development Department: Housing & Community Services:
Learn about the field of affordable housing and community development, assist with research on a variety of topics including shared housing, farmworker housing needs, and homelessness. This internship may also include tasks related to outreach and administrative tasks related to federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs.
Building Code Intern:
Assist in writing policies and procedures manual and learning more about City building code and procedures and processes.

Human Resources Department: The Human Resources Department is recruiting for up to three (3) interns to work in the Recruitment/Selection, Classification/Compensation, and Training Division. The Human Resources Department is seeking a highly motivated individual who will support client departments with conducting recruitments across the City. Recruitments range from working on classified and As-needed positions. This position requires initiative, research skills, and strong customer service skills. This position will require the incumbent to be familiar with and follow set recruitment procedures and City processes and have the ability to relay this information to client Departments and candidates. The selected individual may support components of the City's training program, may be required to conduct classification/compensation surveys for various classifications, data analytics, assist with reclassification studies, and will assist with various special projects as assigned. Qualified candidates will have strong interpersonal skills, exceptional organizational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Library Department: Internship opportunity available in Youth Services (2), Northside Branch (1), and Bookmobile (1).
Youth Services - Library Youth Advocate Intern:

Northside Branch - Library Intern
The Library Intern will assist with the daily operations of the library, support library programs, and help with collection management tasks. This internship provides hands-on experience in a public library setting, allowing interns to develop customer service skills, develop organizational and problem-solving skills, learn about library resources, gain insight into library operations, and work in a community-centered environment that fosters learning and engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Assist library staff with circulation duties, such as checking materials in and out, shelving books, and organizing materials.
- Provide customer service by answering basic patron inquiries, directing patrons to appropriate resources, and assisting with computer usage.
- Maintain library spaces by tidying up reading areas and ensuring materials are in their correct locations.
- Help set up and take down materials and equipment for library programs and events.
- Assist with program facilitation, such as storytimes, book clubs, and educational workshops.
- Engage with library patrons during events to encourage participation and provide support as needed.
- Shelve and organize books and other library materials according to the library’s classification system.
- Assist with inventory, weeding, and shifting materials to optimize space and accessibility.
- Prepare and label new books and materials for circulation.

- Assist bookmobile staff in providing basic library customer service
- Represent the library at outreach events in schools, parks and City events.
- Help community members find books in bookmobile and promote library resources.
- Support library upkeep with light tidying and shelving books.
- May assist in creating social media marketing for library programs or services

Parks and Recreation Department: Parks & Recreation requests two Student Intern II’s to support the Department with website design and redesign, website content development, website/marketing image development.
The positions would be trained in the City’s CMS system and get direction from the Deputy Director, Recreation Manager, Recreation Supervisors, and Communication Coordinator to edit the Department website for ADA compliance, ease of use, and current Department needs. Their roles would be responsible for implementing design, the overall layout and aesthetic for the Department webpages. Their duties would include coding webpages, meeting with content collaborators to review website templates or refine their designs and running tests to preview layouts and website features.
The ideal candidate should have experience with web design, graphic organization, or marketing and communications, and/or development of public information. They would be detail-oriented, yet creative.

- Student Intern II: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate program at Mission College. Please attach proof of enrollment to your application.
