    The City of Salinas is the 33rd largest city in the state with a population of over 161,000 and is in beautiful Monterey County, California. Salinas has great career opportunities for two Assistant Community Development Directors. In collaboration with the Community Development Director, these positions will plan, organize, direct, and manage the day-to-day activities and operations of the Community Development Department and assist in the overall management of the department to support the Director. The Community Development Department is committed to creating a safe, healthy, and prosperous Salinas through targeted revitalization and sustainable, well-designed land use and development. Department functions include planning, permitting, code enforcement, management of federal funding, rental assistance, housing production and policy, homeless services, neighborhood improvement projects, and economic development. The Community Development Director and two Assistant Community Development Directors oversee and supervise the approximately 66 full-time staff assigned to the seven divisions of the department. Divisions include Administration, Advanced Planning & Project Implementation, Economic Development, Current Planning, Permit Services, Code Enforcement, and Housing & Community Development. The City is seeking a forward-thinking, emotionally intelligent candidate to serve as the next Assistant Community Development Director. The ideal candidate is a proven leader and mentor with excellent communication skills. This position will provide department and Director support through the management of assigned department divisions. The ideal candidate will be a solution-oriented team leader with extensive experience in strategic planning, organizational development, team building, mentoring, and program, project, and grant management with experience working in a community development division or department with demonstrated experience in managing at least one of the following areas: housing, homeless services, advanced planning, program, and project implementation and/or economic development.

     

    The annual salary range for the Assistant Community Development Director (Housing & Economic Development, Including Homeless Services, Advanced Planning, and Project Implementation) is $144,048 - $183,864; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
