Performs skilled technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of engines, pumps, and electrical equipment at lift stations throughout the City of Orlando. Work is performed under the supervision of a Lift Station Supervisor and reviewed through direct observation, logs, and system operation. Routine work is performed independently, but complex tasks may be closely supervised. Incumbent must work a flexible work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs dictate.
Minimum Qualifications: Trainee
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) months of experience in lift station operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator. Home phone or cell phone required. Must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of employment. Must obtain Wastewater Class C Collection Technician Certification within two (2) years of employment and be promoted to full operator level; a one-time extension of six (6) months may be granted based on performance and approval by Management and Human Resources.
Lift Station Operator C
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year experience in lift station operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator. Valid Limited Certification issued through the State of Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services to allow Lift Station Operators to spray chemical weed killer (such as 'Round-Up') for weed control required within one (1) year of hire/promotion. Valid Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FW&PCOA) Class C Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate required. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Home phone or cell phone required.
Lift Station Operator B
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years experience in lift station operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FW&PCOA) Class B Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate, a valid Florida Driver's License, and a home phone or cell phone. Lift Station Operator A
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and five (5) years experience in lift station operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FW&PCOA) Class "A" Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate, a valid Florida Driver's License, and a home phone or cell phone. Valid Limited Certification issued through the State of Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services to allow Lift Station Operators to spray chemical weed killer (such as 'Round-Up') for weed control required within one (1) year of hire/promotion. Must pass annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator.
LIFT STATION OPERATORS: ALL LEVELS
- Must be able reliably to be contacted in case of an emergency work situation.
- Must pass annual respirator physical.
- No facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face piece:
Employees must be clean shaven at the start of their assigned work shift .
- Must obtain security clearance and GOAA ID within 90 days of employment and maintain same.
- Florida drivers license required.
