Examples of Important and Essential Functions

The City of Livermore is offering summer internship opportunities in the following Department/Divisions:

    Airport Division

The Livermore Airport (LVK) is a General Aviation Reliever Airport which serves private, business and corporate tenants and customers. LVK serves primarily the Tri-Valley region with a population of over 300,000 residents. Most of the Airport's 460 tenants are Livermore and Pleasanton residents.

    Building Division

The Building Division provides plan review and field inspections of buildings to ensure a safe, accessible and energy efficient environment throughout our community. The Division regulates local and State laws related to building construction, maintenance, use, repair and rehabilitation. This includes enforcement of the City's Development Code and Municipal Code through our Neighborhood Preservation section, and state mandated energy conservation, disabled access, and housing laws. These objectives are accomplished through administration of public outreach and technical assistance programs, as well as building code regulation.

The Building Division also manages the City's Permit Center. The Permit Center coordinates and streamlines the development review and construction permit process. Applications for construction projects are submitted to the Permit Center, where the review process is coordinated among several departments and regulatory agencies. This provides the customer with a comprehensive single point of contact throughout the entire review and permit process.

    City Clerk’s Office

The City Clerk's Office is the primary point of contact for the public and staff regarding City Council actions. They respond to public requests for records and maintain and produce documents that enable the public to participate in local government.

This internship will provide an introduction to local government including preparing for City Council meetings, aiding in managing city records, learning general office skills, and providing customer service via phone and email to both internal staff and the general public.

    Emergency Management

Livermore Emergency Management designs, facilitates, and implements programs and training that promote economic recovery, social stability, and “whole community” resilience before, during, and after a disaster. This is done by utilizing the 4 elements of the Emergency Management Cycle: Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Emergency management ensures that methods and procedures are in place to quickly transition from a daily management to emergency management posture. Emergency Management IS NOT emergency response.

This internship will conduct public outreach, emergency planning, data gathering, etc. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter and can work under minimal supervision.
