    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Custodian position. This position performs standard custodial and cleaning duties in Clark County Department of Aviation buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds. Additionally, this position interacts with and provides standard information to the public if cleaning public facilities on an assigned shift.

    THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.

    This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    One (1) year of full-time experience in janitorial or custodial work.

    Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

    Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, depending upon the department to which assigned.

    Licensing and Certification: Department of Aviation positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of hire.

    Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

    Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

    Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

    Background Check:
    Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Mobility to perform custodial and related work, including operating hand and power equipment; stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps, vacuums and spot clean carpeted areas.
    • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; dusts counters, windowsills, window blinds and similar fixtures.
    • Empties, cleans and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
    • Washes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, window blinds and furniture; polishes metalwork.
    • Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary.
    • Cleans lighting fixtures and reports the need for bulb or tube replacement.
    • Strips, seals and buffs floors.
    • Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure buildings.
    • Reports the need for maintenance or repair of facilities to the appropriate supervisor; corrects or reports any fire or safety hazards and places barriers in public areas.
    • Maintains equipment, materials and supplies in proper condition.
    • Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
    • Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use.
    • Answers questions and provides standard information to the public if working in a public facility.
    • Reports unauthorized persons and other security problems.
    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
    • Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
    • May set up meeting rooms and rearrange furniture; may drive a County motor vehicle to specified work sites.
    • May oversee the work of community service workers when assigned.
