    Ready to take your first step towards an exciting career in law enforcement? The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is hiring for Patrol Deputy Recruit (Academy Eligibility List). Join our team of dedicated professionals and play a crucial role in the safety and security of northern Colorado.

    This opportunity is intended for applicants without a Colorado POST Certification (Non-Certified). Candidates who are extended an offer of employment will have the opportunity to attend POST Academy with tuition paid for by our Office, and will be paid by the LCSO while attending. Offers from this eligibility list will be made to top candidates based on vacancies, funding, and academy seats available. This eligibility list does not guarantee that an open position will become available within a year's time.

    Salary Information : Patrol Recruits will start at the Step 1 Deputy Non-Certified pay rate of $35.34/hour.
    After graduation of the POST Academy, they will be moved to the Step 1 Deputy Certified pay rate of $38.87/hour. What do we have to offer?

    Responsibilities

    What you'll be doing : Provide law enforcement duties, including protection of citizens and crime prevention, while maintaining security and preserving order. May perform duties of the Deputy Non-Certified if assigned to the Jail.
    • Effectively communicates to provide information, directions, mediations, and de-escalate situations and resolve conflicts
    • Determines when there is reasonable suspicion to detain when probable cause exists to search and arrest, and when appropriate force may be used and to what degree
    • Subdues resisting suspects using approved techniques of arrest control, defensive tactics, and weapons; resorts to the use of hands, feet and other approved weapons in defense of self or others
    • Pursues fleeing suspects
    • Testifies and attends court and speaks in other formal settings as necessary
    • Reads, comprehends, prepares, and processes legal and non-legal documents

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire
    • First aid and community CPR certificates required within 12 weeks from date of hire
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License required
    • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado P.O.S.T. required

    Supplemental Information

    Schedule : Shift work required which includes working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

    Other Information to Note:

    An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. Successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result. The Sheriff's Office prohibits possession of marijuana by employees under any circumstances and expects employees to comply with federal law.

    Submit your Letter of Intent to your direct supervisor.

    Your mid-level manager then endorses your Letter of Support.
    Your Division Commander then endorses your Letter of Support.
