JOB SUMMARYUnder general direction of the Downtown Manager, responsible for the successful planning, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of downtown events and programs which generate positive economic activity for downtown businesses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Plan, organize, implement, and support various types of events, initiatives, and programs
- Establish event/program timelines; prepare itineraries when applicable
- Design, develop, and coordinate the distribution of flyers, press releases and other marketing materials for events/programs
- Develop and make presentations to promote events/programs
- Coordinate with downtown stakeholders and partnering organizations to implement events/programs
- Liaise with vendors, sponsors, volunteer and civic organizations
- Purchase necessary supplies
- Develop and adhere to program budgets; track expenditures
- Recruit volunteers, assign and oversee volunteer work duties at events
- Develop and recruit sponsors for events/programs
- Evaluate events/programs
- Compile program data and prepare related reports
- Assist with Departmental events/programs as assigned
2. Develop and maintain digital assets for Downtown San Marcos
- Develop and implement social media strategies and campaigns
- Create promotional content for social media
- Update city website and calendar of program and event information
- Measure and report social media analytics and insights
- Design and implement email marketing campaigns and content
- Analyze campaign performances
- Design graphics for Main Street Program events and programs
- Manage downtown website - updates, changes, edits, corrections, etc.
3. Accomplish the goals and objectives of the Downtown San Marcos Program
- Provide customer service to visitors and downtown stakeholders
- Foster partnerships with downtown stakeholders
- Develop reports as assigned by the Downtown Manager
- Maintain current promotional content and related documents
- Participate in special promotions sponsored by Downtown such as events, meetings, luncheons, conferences, and trade and travel shows (includes the physical work of set-up and breakdown, interacting with attendees, and the handling and distribution of boxes of promotional materials)
- Attend educational trainings and conferences
- Ensure a cohesive working relationship with all department staff, city personnel, public officials, and area tourism partners (retail, attraction, cultural, hotel, etc.)
- Maintain a high degree of knowledge of existing downtown San Marcos products (hotels, meeting/event facilities, restaurants, and attractions)
- Assist in other areas/departments when needed to assist operations to perform job duties not included in this job description
DECISION MAKING - Ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently, apply rules and procedures appropriately while planning and conducting group activities; and to ensure safety of program participants
- Trains and supervises event volunteers
- Manages assigned budgets
- Ability to identify and assess problem and offer solutions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Two (2) years event coordination and/or event marketing
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
- Flexible hours are required
- CPR/First Aid Certification - must obtain within six months of hire
CORE COMPETENCIES AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS CORE COMPETENCIES - Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with City officials and departments, board members, outside agencies, event/meeting organizers, and the general public.
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend budgets; must be able to review/prepare program/event documentation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally; seeing; handling and fine dexterity frequently; standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, kneeling, balancing, hearing, talking and foot controls occasionally; crouching, crawling, bending, twisting and climbing.
Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, slippery surfaces, crowds, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and potentially irate members of the public.
