    What You'll Be Doing

    Wake County is seeking an innovative Deputy Health Director to oversee and guide the planning, organization, and direction of all clinical programs within the Health Department. The Deputy Health Director will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of seven specialty clinics across five facilities, while also providing strategic leadership for the department as a whole. This position requires a strong background in clinic operations, including human resources, financial management, and reporting.

    As a key member of the Health Department’s leadership team, the Deputy Health Director will collaborate with the Health Director to shape and implement the department’s vision, strategic planning, and long-term goals. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of healthcare systems, exceptional management skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality public health services.

    Responsibilities of the Deputy Health Director include:
    • Supervises all Clinical operations in the Health Department
    • Facilitates Clinical Leadership Team and ensures that communication flows are adhered to, solutions are communicated to appropriate team members and documented
    • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and contractual obligations
    • Ensures continuous quality improvement in clinical areas using data analysis, trends and solutions

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelors degree in Public Health or related field
    • Six years' experience, with two years supervisory and two years in health programs
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Master's degree in Public Health or related field
    • Experience in clinical operations
    • 5 years of supervisory experience


    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple requests and deadlines
    • Ability to establish effective internal/work group relationships and external contacts to coordinate service delivery and advocacy
    • Expertise in supervising the senior management team in the department whose work involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases
    • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction for department with associated goals and objectives for each major division and through policy development
