    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    READ - IMPORTANT TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENT:

    A copy of a current college transcript, ISSUED FROM THE REGISTRAR with a signature and/or school watermark, must be attached to the application at time of submission. The transcript must show current GPA, credits, and current enrollment or recent graduation date.

    DEGREE PLANS OR GRADES FROM A STUDENT SELF-SERVICE PORTAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Omission of a transcript will be the basis for disqualification.

    International degrees must be accompanied with an evaluation of the comparable academic qualification. There are several associations related to degree evaluations that can be contacted to obtain the required documentation (i.e. Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), etc.).

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    The internship position is an opportunity designed for students to obtain relevant work experience to be competitive for a career in Geographic Information System (GIS). This internship assists with map-making and entry level geographic information system work. Work involves input and manipulation of geographic information to create cartographic products and GIS data. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures


    Qualifications:

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Major coursework in geography, geographic information systems technology, management information systems, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field.

    Experience :

    Completed or currently enrolled in at least one course regarding geographic information systems, remote sensing techniques or cartography.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of terminology related to geographic information systems, cartography

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in gathering information.

    Skill in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

    Skill in solving problems.

    Ability to work under supervision.

    Ability to perform detailed work accurately.

    Ability to create technical documentation.

    Ability to communicate effectively.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work 10-40 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

    Required to work overtime as necessary.

    Required to pass a national fingerprint-based background check to maintain employment.

    May be required to trave up to 5%.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
