(Central Office in Jefferson City, Kansas City, Saint Louis, or Springfield) Why you’ll love this position: The motor carrier investigations specialist researches, develops, and administers motor carrier programs and policies; interprets related statutes and regulations and serves in an advisory/training capacity to unit supervisors, employees, and motor carriers. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
- Assists Safety & Compliance supervisors across the state with training new investigators on the applicability of the commercial motor vehicle safety, economic, and hazardous materials regulations. Provide oversite for initial inspections and investigations for employees while also maintaining personal inspection and investigation certifications.
- Recurrent travel to Safety & Compliance districts observing senior and non-senior investigators to ensure appropriate investigative techniques are applied during investigations and safety audits. Reviews completed investigations, safety audits, and enforcement reports checking for quality and accuracy.
- Obtains/maintains skill performance evaluation certificate to conduct skill performance evaluations (SPEs) for commercial motor vehicle drivers with limb loss or limb impairment requiring an SPE certificate.
- Provides internal training to Safety & Compliance staff including, but not limited to, federal and state regulation review, CMV inspection standards, and state statute applicability and exemptions. Responsible for coordinating annual Safety & Compliance in-service refresher training.
- Conducts virtual and in-person safety presentations to the commercial motor vehicle industry.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree: Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Safety, Business Administration, or related field, AND three years of experience in motor carrier services activities, OR
- Seven years of experience in motor carrier services activities.
- North American Standard Inspection Certification, General Hazardous Materials, Cargo Tank/Bulk Package, Motor Coach, Skill Performance Evaluation, and Compliance Review courses.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires occasional, statewide and out-of-state, overnight travel.
