    Title: Intern - Bristol County Juvenile Court, Judge’s Lobby

    Pay rate: $24.00/hour

    Departmental Mission: It is the mission of the Juvenile Court to protect children from abuse and neglect and promote opportunities for children to reside in safe, stable, permanent family environments whenever possible, to strengthen families when their children are in need of services, to rehabilitate juveniles, to protect the public from delinquent and criminal activity while holding offenders accountable and addressing the harm suffered by the community and the victim, and to decide all cases fairly and impartially with dedication, integrity and professionalism.

    Notes:
    • This posting will fill two internship positions.
    • This position will report fully onsite, Monday - Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
    • This position requires travel to Bristol County Juvenile Court locations, located in Fall River, Attleboro, New Bedford, and Taunton.

    The Juvenile Court is responsible for balancing the needs of children, their families, and their communities. Civil and criminal issues from care and protection proceedings to various criminal issues.

    -Advocating for Children

    Position Summary:

    The intern should be able to provide a broad range of skilled and confidential support to the Judge. Depending on the need, this intern may be placed in one of our four locations, Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton, or Attleboro.

    The intern, under the supervision and guidance of the Judge, will work on a variety of assignments that will involve daily duties that may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • A demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about various concepts.
    • Procedural and substantive law.
    • Drafting Jury Instructions.
    • Research and drafting memoranda on various complex legal issues.
    • Review of documents for substantive accuracy and format.
    • Drafting portion of Court orders on various civil and criminal issues, including but not limited to Motions to Dismiss and Motions to Suppress.


    Position Requirements:
    • Enrolled in a juris doctorates program or an accredited college or university.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe and other computer software
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to articulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned analysis.
    • Ability to observe all courtroom rules and decorum.
    • Ability to maintain professional conduct and dress/wardrobe.
