Provisional appointments are temporary and valid until a priority or eligible list becomes available for the classification. Provisional appointments are valid for 150 days unless extended and approved by Civil Service Commission. THE DEPARTMENT The Technology & Innovation Department (TID) plans and develops the technology infrastructure for the City and provides a centralized resource for technology deployment and support throughout the City. The Department integrates people, processes, and technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of City services through the work of its 181 FTEs while operating on a FY 2024 annual operating budget of nearly $70 million and multi-year capital projects budget of $101 million. TID is organized into five bureaus: Business Operations, Digital Services, Enterprise Information Services, Infrastructure Services, and Technology Engagement & Support. The Department also manages LBTV, a production studio that develops custom programming and distributes City multimedia content via its broadcast TV station and social media platforms. THE POSITION T he City of Long Beach Technology & Innovation Department (TID) has an immediate opening for 3 full-time classified Office Services Assistant II's. The positions will be assigned to the Office Services Division in the Technology and Engagement Support Bureau. One vacancy is the Mail Room in which the position is responsible for distributing and processing mail and a variety of other materials including the operation of a metering machine and a machine that does both metering and insertion. The other 2 vacancies are in the Reprographics section in which the position operates machinery such as: high volume copiers, paper drill, bindery equipment, or power paper cutter and folder.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES MAILROOM This position reports to the Office Services Assistant III (Mailroom Supervisor) and is responsible for the following duties:
- Supports Citywide mail delivery by operating the mail stuffing and postage machines in the mail room;
- Delivers Citywide mail to all locations as needed;
- Sorts and delivers City mail to all City Hall departments;
- Collects, sorts, and distributes interdepartmental mail, books, and other items between City locations by automobile, truck, and foot;
- Carries registered mail from the City mailroom to the United States Post Office;
- Operates mailroom equipment including folding, metering and insertion machines;
- Weighs and posts United States mail;
- Maintains records, and prepares reports such as zip code tally sheets and USPS postage statements;
- May load and operate a delivery truck or van;
- May ensure truck or van is properly maintained; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
REPROGRAPHICS This position reports to the Office Services Supervisor and is responsible for the following duties:
- Operates complex machinery such as: metering and insertion machines, high volume copiers, paper drill, bindery equipment, or power paper cutter and folder;
- Operates, cleans, maintains, and adjusts quality on high-volume copiers;
- Trims, folds, pads, drills, and collates printed and copied finished stock;
- Binds books and manuals by stitching, taping, stapling, or with spiral bindings;
- Operates power paper cutter and paper folder;
- Coordinates with vendors on print and mass mailing jobs;
- Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE- Ability to effectively operate a variety of machines and equipment involved in collecting, collating, weighing, and stamping mail;
- Ability to effectively identify, sort and deliver mail, books, materials, and equipment according to destination;
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required ;
- Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds in weight;
- Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime and split shifts;
- Some positions require the ability to effectively operate high volume copying and binding equipment;
- Previous mailroom, delivery or reproduction experience is highly desirable.
