    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the English Department Chair and with lead direction collaboratively provided by the History Department Chair, the English Department’s Administrative Support Coordinator II and the History Department’s Administrative Support Coordinator I, this position provides general clerical support for the department chair and faculty of both the English and History Departments. The position is responsible for providing information and support for administration, faculty, students, parents, and the general public regarding the departments’ programs. The position serves as front office receptionist and provides a full range of clerical support for the faculty, the department chair, and the Administrative Support Coordinator for two academic departments. The joint-assignment is evenly split between the two departments at 50%, or 20 hours per week working for each department .
    • This position is paid under the 10/12 pay plan, where salary for 10 months is distributed over 12 months with July and August off (with pay, benefits, and vacation/sick leave accrual continuing through months off).

    Department Summary

    The English Department, in the College of Liberal Arts, is one of the largest academic units within the University. The department offers BA and MA degrees in English, an English minor, a Linguistics minor, and certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language and Technical Communication. The department offers many courses to satisfy the General Education and Breadth requirements for all Cal Poly students.

    The History Department is a major academic unit within the College of Liberal Arts. The department offers BA and MA degrees in History and minors in History and Asian Studies Minor. It also provides many courses in support of the General Education Program and the Social Science Credential Program.

    Key Qualifications

    1. General working knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
    2. Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
    3. Ability to learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures. Ability to identify deviations from applicable policies.
    4. Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and, at times, creative solutions.
    5. Ability to perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
    6. Ability to actively problem solve and use effective interpersonal skills when working as a front-line contact with a variety of campus and community individuals.

    Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Three years of general office support experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience)

    Salary and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $36,804 - $44,240 annually

    Classification Range: $36,804 - $54,168 annually
