Job Summary Starting Salary: $15.00
Job Description Performs skilled work in the preparation, cultivation, and care of the grounds and of various types of flowers, ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees at Harry P. Leu Gardens or the City Nursery. Propagates, arranges, and prunes plants. Prepares soils and bedding for planting. Prepares and dispenses plant and lawn care chemicals. Assists the public with horticulture, floriculture, agriculture, and entomology-related problems. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observations, discussions, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Horticulture or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Work is performed outdoors and employee may be subject to unfavorable weather conditions and insects.
THIS IS A PART_TIME_POSITION WITH NO GUARANTEE OF A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS AND NO BENEFITS. THIS POSITION INVOLVES WORKING ON A TEMP/SEASONAL CONTRACT WHICH CAN BE RENEWED ANNUALLY BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND BUSINESS NEEED. If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
- Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
- Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
