The Position
Grounds Maintenance Workers perform landscape, garden and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding and snow and ice prevention and removal; and operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists.

Under general supervision, incumbent assists in a specialized phase of grounds service, answerable to a Grounds Supervisor or Facility Supervisor at all Nevada National Guard Military Bases. The Grounds Maintenance Worker 4 (GMW4) plans and schedules routine activities and oversees team members, including work assignments, work reviews, training and performs technical work on facility irrigation systems. GMW4 will schedule irrigation according to city, State, and Military regulations, events, seasonal demands, and adverse weather conditions. In addition, incumbent performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs by maintaining and cleaning wells and storage tanks, repairing controllers, valve lines, sprinklers and backflow preventers. Positions in this class are distinguished from those at the lower level by having responsibility for other permanent team members, including the timely and accurate completion of tasks assigned to the grounds worker crew or by having the technical knowledge required to construct, maintain, and repair a complex network of irrigation systems that has a greater impact on the grounds service budget and the overall landscape program. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Two years of experience performing grounds maintenance work using a variety of tools and techniques; OR one year of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. This position may require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
