ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Building Maintenance division is responsible for more than 50 County owned facilities including Libraries, Fire stations, Sheriff stations, Flood Control pump stations, office buildings, and two lock-down facilities. The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical equipment such as emergency backup generators, motors, pumps, distribution panels, switch gear systems, transformers, electrical circuits of various types, conduits and pull boxes. Additionally, they will replace fuses, locate, and correct short circuits with the use of test equipment, and interpret work from sketches and blueprints. The Maintenance Electrician will make reports using standard computer equipment including Microsoft office to complete records and communicate pertinent information.

QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of- Standard practices, procedures, methods, materials, equipment, machines, tools and safety requirements used in the electrical trades.
- Electrical building construction, including planning, layout, blueprint reading, and estimating labor, materials, and cost.
- Basic record keeping.
- Safe work practices when working with asbestos-containing materials.
- Basic provisions of the Uniform Building Code as it relates to the electrical trade.
- National Electrical Code and State Safety Orders pertaining to electrical installations.
- Basic knowledge of other building maintenance functions.
Ability to- Interpret and apply the National Electrical Code and the California Electrical Safety Orders.
- Follow all safety regulations and procedures.
- Prepare accurate time sheets and other records relating to electrical work orders.
- Effectively interact with other members of a crew, operating department representatives, County employees, and the public.
- Read blueprints, do layout work and work from plans and specifications.
- Troubleshoot and make emergency repairs.
- Estimate labor and material requirements for small jobs.
- Provide lead direction.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Write and prepare accurate written reports, complete records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSESTwo years of industrial or commercial work requiring journey level electrician skills.
Certificates and Licenses- Possession of a valid State of California, Department of Industrial Relations, Certified Electrician, General Class License. Employee must maintain valid license throughout employment with the County.
- This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations, including off-road and remote sites. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. If a driver's license is required, at the time of the selection interview by the appointing authority, applicants will have to furnish a recent DMV driving record.
