    Summary

    ABOUT THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE:
    The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency that oversees the adult jail, provides patrol, criminal investigations, civil process and search and rescue operations. Special units include SWAT, Marine Patrol, ATV Patrol, Forest Patrol, along with five K9 teams. Founded in 1916 and today led by your duly elected Sheriff Kent van der Kamp, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office serves over 200,000 residents in Deschutes County.

    ABOUT THE JOB:
    Deschutes County is currently accepting applications for a Business Manager in the Sheriff's Office. This position requires excellent organizational and project management skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a high level of critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Will manage diverse and highly complex duties that require financial/accounting skills, personnel management capabilities and familiarity with industry and legal requirements and standards. Duties include assisting the Sheriff's Office with personnel matters, strategic planning, systems analysis and improvement as well as financial management, reporting and forecasting; preparing annual budget, requiring an understanding of governmental accounting and financial reporting and budgeting practices; assuring sound document, contracting and grants management activities are within Sheriff's Office and State regulations, guidelines and protocols; organizing and supervising purchasing; and developing and applying policies and procedures for efficient business operations.

    • Budgeting.

    • Cost center accounting.
    • Reporting to County, State, and Federal organizations.
    What You Will Bring:
    Knowledge of or experience with:
    • General understanding of governmental accounting, financial reporting and budgeting practices.
    • Computer software to include Excel, MS Word, Power Point, Outlook, fiscal, project, and contract management applications.
    • Critical thinking, communications skills (written and verbal), and excellent listening skills.

    Skill In:
    • Leading and engaging staff in active problem solving.
    • Fostering positive morale and teamwork.
    • Flowing chart work processes and analyzing for operational efficiencies.

    Compensation

    $8,679.12 to $11,630.84 for a 173.33 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This position is available immediately.

    BENEFITS:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, or a related field;
    • AND five (5) years of financial and operational support experience, including managerial experience;
    • OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business and three years of experience.
    • Experience in law enforcement information systems.


    Necessary Special Requirements

    The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

    Must pass a pre-qualifying driving record review and criminal history background.
    • A current driver's license and the state of origin are required. Candidates who wish to be considered for this position must include an accurate driver's license number and state of origin on their application under the Personal Information section.

    Background Investigation:
    • A successful candidate will complete a full background investigation and interview prior to receiving a conditional job offer.


    Physical Requirements : Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment. The position is frequently required to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 10 pounds.
