    Job Summary

    The Communications and Graphic Design Specialist is responsible for promoting the museum's exhibitions, programs, and events, as well as its philosophy to the campus and external communities through effective marketing and public relations activities. The specialist will develop and implement collateral for the museum and museum events.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Design, create, and edit engaging audio-visual, digital, and print collateral, including work for social media platforms, websites, newsletter, and hard-copy materials.
    • In collaboration with museum staff, assist with PR & Marketing Communications.
    • Ensure continuity of the established brand aesthetic to promote mission-driven initiatives, campaigns, and programs.
    • Manage image rights and reproductions for press and media purposes.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    Excellent interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills. Experience with software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience in desktop design/publishing using Adobe Photoshop, lnDesign, Acrobat, and Drupal, as well as a working knowledge of commercial printing.

    Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

    Education and Experience

    • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and six months of related professional or technical experience required.

    • Background in visual arts or other cultural fields preferred.

    • Experience working in higher education and/or nonprofit organization preferred.

    Physical Summary
    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,058 - $4,552 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,058 - $6,883 per month.

    Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

    Time Base

    1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

    Duration of Appointment

    This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
