This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri State Parks, and will be located at Montauk State Park, 345 County Road 6670, Salem, MO 65560. Work shift primarily will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday (five eight-hour days, with hour-long lunch) and will vary according to facility demands, including working a minimum of two weekends per month, various holidays, special events, and emergency situations when necessary. Will also share after-hour “on call” duty. On-site park housing is provided, and candidate is expected to maintain a residence on-site.
• Assist in directing the overall operation and maintenance of Montauk State Park, including campground, day use areas, trail network, small maintenance and repair projects, and visitor service functions.
• Oversee the work and behavior of various seasonal, volunteer, and full-time staff, including mentoring and coaching staff. This position supervises six full-time maintenance staff and varying temporary seasonal laborers.
• Oversee activities that include but are not limited to maintaining and ordering inventory of various supplies, planning and procuring materials for projects, drafting and submitting variety of reports and compliance documents, maintaining logs for park vehicle maintenance and fuel usage, and developing schedules and operating procedures for routine and seasonal park maintenance functions.
• Assist with administrative functions of park operations, including annual budget requests, tracking and managing budget allocations, project recommendations, bidding and purchasing materials and services, and revenue management.
• Participate in planning and directing natural or cultural history interpretation, resource management and research.
• Planning, coordinating, and implementing special events, group outings, and special program requests with a variety of park stakeholders.
• Directly assist with park resource stewardship activities, such as prescribed fire and invasive plant removal.
• Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.
• Independently make sound decisions and direct staff as needed.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field AND Four or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
