Identifies material, tools and equipment needs for each assigned project.Performs full range of turf maintenance duties such as watering, mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, aerating, renovating, and fertilizing turf areas.Performs full range of shrub and flower bed maintenance such as planting, watering, fertilizing, and maintaining landscaped areas, including bushes, trees, flowers and shrubs; sprays, controls and eradicates weeds.Trims and prunes bushes, trees, and shrubs to provide clearance of sidewalks and signs, as well as to ensure the continued health of the plants, trees, and landscaped areas.Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance of irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads, lines, valves; maintains and adjusts controllers; assists with major irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.Maintains and prepares baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts and handball courts; drags, waters, levels, measures, paints, and prepares ball diamonds and playing surfacesOperates full range of grounds maintenance vehicles and equipment including backhoes, loaders, tractors, water trucks, dump trucks, stake beds, utility trucks, water tankers, rollers, boom trucks, mowers, striping equipment, chippers, compressors, edgers, blowers, and various hand and power tools; maintains tools and equipment and performs preventive maintenance.Maintains play equipment, picnic tables, public address equipment, and other related parks equipment and facilities; installs and repairs playground equipment, fences, and other related parks equipment and facilities; repairs tables and benches.Assists in performing pest control functions; measures, mixes, and applies chemicals to trees, shrubs, grass and flowers to control weeds, insects, and plant diseases given appropriate direction.Assists in the removal of fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.Performs concrete and asphalt street and sidewalk maintenance work; applies slurry and patches; removes tree roots and replaces sidewalks.Inspects, cleans, and clears sewers, storm drains, gutters, and laterals, and removes blockages.Rakes leaves, sweeps surfaces, and uses blowers to clear debris from walkways, fields, paths, and other facilities; picks up and removes trash.Cleans and maintains restrooms; stocks rest rooms with necessary supplies; repairs toilets, urinals and faucets; performs basic carpentry, electrical, construction, and concrete work given appropriate direction.Operates sandblaster and water blaster and removes graffiti; prepares and repaints surfaces such as walls, ceilings, and other structures and surfaces.Operates paint and sign trucks; mixes paints; properly measures areas and lays out and uses stencils; makes, posts, and removes signs; cleans painting equipment; maintains paint materials and supplies.Assists with various streets, parks, building and facilities construction projects; assists in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roadways, parking lots, wooden bridges, pathways and other improvements; performs traffic control.Assists in the set-up and removal of equipment needed for special events; operates boom truck for removing graffiti, posting signs or banners, and lights.Responds to public inquiries and complaints; provides information regarding rules and regulations of the parks and other facilities; identifies and reports maintenance needs and safety hazards to appropriate staff.Other duties as assigned.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, construction, or repair of parks, medians, streets, sewers, sanitation, and/or rights-of-way.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- Valid California Class C driver's license
- Ability to obtain a Class B driver's license within 1 year of appointment.

Schedule-The City operates on a "4/10" work schedule.
Retirement - The City of Placentia participates in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and does not participate in Social Security.
- 2% @ 60 defined retirement plan (Classic Members) - Applies to employees who, prior to January 1, 2013, were active members of CalPERS or another public employee retirement system through which reciprocity may be established. Employee membership contribution is 7%.
- 2% @ 62 defined retirement plan (New Members/PEPRA) - Applies to new employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, who are not members of CalPERS or are not members of another public employee retirement system with which reciprocity may be established. Employee membership contribution is 6.75%.
Bilingual Pay- An additional pay of $175 per month
Health Insurance - Up to $1,877 per month for family coverage to purchase health insurance through the CalPERS Health Benefits program. Medical opt out also available.
Dental & Vision Insurance - Fully paid plan for dental and vision insurance.
Life Insurance - Fully paid life insurance policy equal to employee's annual salary. Additional life insurance available for purchase.

Paid Time Off (Vacation) - Accrual rate of80 hours per year. 80 hours per year; 120 hours after 3 years of service.
Alternative Health & Wellness (Sick Leave) - 96 hours per year; this program includes an incentive of up to $1,250 per fiscal year.
Holiday Closure - City Hall and most City Services observe a Holiday Closure annually for two weeks at the end of December/beginning of January, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day (paid time off varies per year, assignment and Bargaining Unit); City to provide up to sixty-two (62) hours of leave during the 2023-2024 holiday closure.
