    RECREATION ATTENDANT

    (Recreation Assistant Job Code 9325

    Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

    THE POSITION

    The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic and responsible individuals interested in part-time work providing facility-related services and equipment set-ups for recreation programs and events at Columbia Neighborhood Center. This position is required to work three (3) to eight (8) hour shifts on weekday evenings and weekends.

    Essential Job Functions

    (May include, but are not limited to, the following):
    • Performs light cleaning, removes trash, moves furniture and equipment and picks up supplies for programs and classes
    • Monitors facility user groups by enforcing rules and regulations
    • Serves as a contact for evening and weekend events, responding to customer questions and ensuring policies and procedures are followed
    • Opens facilities in mornings and secures them in the evenings
    • Provides appropriate room setup and take down for classes, meetings, parties and special events and ensures rooms are free of safety hazards
    • Secure and/or report damage or unsafe conditions


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum age is 16 years old.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Proficient in areas related to customer service.
    • Must be available to work 6-8 hour shifts on weekday evenings and weekends each week.
    Licenses/Certificates:Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record or the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience in customer service and/or facility-related services.
    • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, or Farsi
