    The Position

    The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of CALIFORNIANSFORALL PROGRAM FELLOW to work in the Office of the Mayor. Working in the Office of the Mayor for the City of Riverside, you will join a team of individuals who are valued for their unique perspectives, encouraged to share their opinions, and pushed to develop their skills. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months but may be extended.

    The City has received a $4.4 million CaliforniansForAll Workforce Development Grant (“Grant”), which is part of California Volunteers, responsible for engaging Californians in service, volunteering, and civic action to tackle the State’s most pressing challenges and lift-up all communities. This exciting entry-level opportunity is all about increasing youth employment, developing youth interest in and experience towards a career. As a CaliforniansForAll Program Fellow, you'll have an opportunity to dive into a diverse range of administrative/technical tasks to address key areas of climate, food insecurity, and local COVID-19 recovery within a specific department. Under supportive guidance, you'll tackle these various tasks with a can-do attitude, bringing your passion to every aspect of the role.

    ** CANDIDATES MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16 - 30 YEARS OLD **

    75% of ALL Program Fellows hires must meet a priority eligibility defined as (must meet two criteria)

    25% of applicants can meet one or none of these criteria:
    • Have not participated in an AmeriCorps program
    • May have difficulty finding employment
    • Are low-income
    • Are unemployed and/or out of school
    • Are or were justice-involved
    • Are in/or transitioning from foster care; AND/OR
    • Are engaged with the mental health or substance abuse system

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Online audience analysis with an emphasis on inclusivity and diversity of voice
    • Social media content development, including content writing, planning and implementation
    • Assistance with development of communications and social media calendar
    • Writing talking points for events and scripts for video and interviews
    • Staffing events with the Mayor or Mayor's staff
    • Taking photos and interacting with community members
    • Strategic analysis of communications needs
    • Captioning and uploading videos to social media and other online platforms
    • Website review and maintenance
    • Environmental scanning and research for content and talking points
    • Occasional press release writing
    • Event planning for elected officials


    Qualifications

    Experience: None.

    Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).

    Licenses and Certifications:
    Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

    Highly Desirable Qualifications:
    • Proficiency utilizing content creation software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, or Canva) and video editing tools (e.g., Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere)
    • Experience in designing infographics, posts, or digital materials that simplify complex information into accessible, visually engaging formats
    • Experience managing social media accounts, with an emphasis on building a consistent posting schedule and maintaining brand tone
    • Experience in monitoring social media performance metrics, generating reports, and identifying trends to adjust strategies


    Note: While we encourage all interested candidates to apply, the CAForAll Youth Workforce Development Grant requires that 75% of all hires through the program meet 2 or more of the eligibility requirements listed above. Candidates who do not meet all eligibility requirements are still welcome to apply, but their application may not be eligible for the grant funding.

    Temporary Variable & Full-Time

    Employees hired in a temporary position working "variable" part-time hours (less than 30 hrs/week) may be eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan offered by the City upon meeting full-time eligibility at the end of their measurement period (12 months). Employees hired in a temporary full-time (more than 30 hrs/week) position will be eligible to enroll in a health insurance plan offered by the City upon hire.

    All temporary employees are automatically enrolled in a mandatory Deferred Compensation plan in lieu of Social Security.
