    What You'll Be Doing

    Do you enjoy crafting compelling content and developing outreach strategies that make an impact? If so, Capital Area Workforce Development (CAWD) wants to hear from you! We are looking for an Outreach Communications Specialist to help expand our reach and connect job seekers with life-changing opportunities. This position is grant funded.
    • Helps CAWD’s Communications Manager to create and implement an annual outreach strategy that is intentional, results-oriented and aligned with CAWD’s overall goals
    • Contributes to development of processes and workflows in collaboration with staff and service providers that support content creation and lead nurturing for outreach campaigns
    • Conducts in-person onsite outreach to visiting customers to understand their needs, challenges and aspirations, and convey these insights in key messages and materials
    • Attends community or special events involving staff and/or clients to capture photos/video and event details for use in materials about department initiatives
    • Identifies existing customer characteristics that may impact messaging to target audience segments/subgroups using internal data sources
    • Crafts articles and social media posts that deliver valuable information about programs, services and customer successes
    • Evaluates new platforms and methods for storytelling
    • Utilizes scheduling software for posting to social media on a regular basis
    • Implements processes to track analytics across all platforms to guide content development, inform tactics and scheduling and improve reach and engagement

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 1-2 years in marketing, communications and/or non-profit outreach
    • Driver's License
    • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.


    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field
    • Workforce development experience
    • Proven track record of engaging storytelling


    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Demonstrate the ability to develop content and messaging for different audiences, groups and channels
    • Possess writing skills that can vary in tone and style based on the audience and the platform
    • Ability to turn jargon-filled information into plain language that is easily understood by the public
    • Knowledge of and ability to work with design platforms such as Canva, Wix or Adobe Creative Cloud apps
    • Possess strong photography and/or videography skills with an eye for visually appealing materials and effective editing
    • Possess analytical skills to summarize and report on content performance, customer conversion rates and other metrics to drive data-driven decision-making
    • Knowledge of and skilled in managing social media organization pages such as Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn
    • Ability to work with minimal oversight while understanding when to ask questions or seek approval

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
