    The Position

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    This Safety Specialist is within the Division of Industrial Relations, Mine Safety and Training Section (MSATS) located in Carson City, Nevada. MSATS is regulated by Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) Chapter 512, which aims to reduce the frequency and severity of mine accidents by providing training to miners and mine operators. Safety Specialists for MSATS are responsible for conducting safety and health inspections at mines, both above ground and underground, mills, quarries, and related facilities; investigate mine accidents; conduct/provide training to mine employees and provide technical assistance and consultation to mine operators. Incumbents may be required to use a personal vehicle to conduct State business.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Five years of technical, operational, or management experience in mines, mills, beneficiation plants, or smelters, one year of which must have been spent working underground. Special Notes This position may be required to work shifts other than 8:00am to 5:00pm, to include weekends. This position may be required to be on Standby/Call back. The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.     Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
