Fresno County Department of Public Health is offering an exceptional career opportunity for dynamic individuals interested in assisting with health education activities and community health promotion as a
Health Education Assistant.
The
Health Education Assistant, reporting to a Health Educator or program manager/supervisor, is responsible for assisting with a program's education and community activities. In that role, the incumbent assists in assessing, planning and organizing health education/promotion activities. Responsibilities include assisting in developing and reviewing health education/promotion materials, contacting clients to provide health education, conducting community and individual outreach activities, and may include assisting medical professionals in conducting height and weight checks.
Please note : Some of the vacancies require bilingual skills in Spanish. However, the eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies that do not require bilingual skills and for both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

Minimum QualificationsEducation : Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system. At least fifteen (15) of the required semester units must be in Health Education, Health Science, or Public Health.
License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.

SELECTION PROCESS :Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for one of the processes listed below:
- Written Examination -If required, the written examination will be offered in an online format. Please indicate on the supplemental questionnaire if you have the ability to complete an online examination.
- Certify Without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
