    Summary/Class Characteristics

    Part Time Recreation Leader (Summer Camps)

    The City of Petaluma Recreation Services Division is seeking enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to staff its annual summer camp programs. Positions for all 3 camps are available: Camp Sunshine- ages 3- entering K; Kids Klub- grades 1st-3rd; K2- grades 4th-5th.

    Recreation Leaders work from the end of May through mid-August, from 25-40 hours per week with flexible scheduling depending on experience and program needs. All Recreation Leaders will be trained and certified onsite in CPR and First Aid prior to the start of all camps.
    This recruitment will remain open until filled and may close at anytime. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply early for first consideration.

    Duties

    Recreation Leaders plan, organize, and facilitate youth activities and recreational programs; plan and organize special activities/events; distribute and maintain equipment; maintain discipline; enforce department policy; open and close facility space; ensure the safety of recreation center patrons; administer first aid; supervise the use and ensure the security of the facility; provide information to the public; assist in the preparation of reports; perform general custodial work and other duties as assigned.

    Camp activities may include: crafts, sports, games, field trips, swimming, and special events. Additional responsibilities include rendering first aid when necessary, keeping records, and maintaining order and control at camp. Recreation Leaders will also be responsible for promoting team work and providing opportunities for personal growth and group spirit while maintaining a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

    Ideal candidates will show strong initiative, effective communication skills, an energetic personality, patience with children, and creativity in the activities offered during camp programs.

    Qualifications

    Candidates should possess some experience working with children. Candidates must successfully pass a city mandated background check, and must be certified in First Aid and CPR by the start of camp (this is will provided). Candidates must be 18 years of age or have obtained a work permit through the school system.

    Physical Demands and Working Environment

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform he essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing; walking; reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, dependent upon the specific task. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Positions require the employee to be exposure to outside weather conditions. The noise level is moderate to loud.
