    Job Summary:

    The primary functions of an Underground Construction Technician II are to install and maintain the underground conduit, vaults, and handholes safely and efficiently. Duties for this position can be physically demanding and require working in an outdoor construction setting.

    The salary range for the Tech II position is $22.78- $30.75 per hour with a hiring range of $22.78 - $26.76, depending on qualifications and experience.

    This opportunity will be available to applicants until Monday, 2/17/25 at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

    Essential Functions:
    • Performs installation of handholes, pedestals and secondary wires for new and up-grade electrical services.
    • Troubleshoot all aspects of the conduit network to ensure the successful installation of Pulse’s underground fiber-optic network.
    • Accurately locate underground cable and duct using cable locator and other methods
    • Performs various labor activities, including running equipment, installing wire, digging trenches.
    • Operate trucks, small equipment, hand and power tools.
    • Enter and track daily work completion through work management system and other computer programs and communicates job activity progress.
    • Maintains dialogue and relationships with the public and city staff on a constructive level by employing effective interpersonal skills.
    • Works as an effective part of team by responding to change and special needs with flexibility and in a positive manner and by taking initiative to resolve conflicts with others independently.
    • Maintain on-call responsibilities relating to emergency restoration as assigned.

    Other Job Functions:
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Education:
    • High School graduate or GED required.

    Experience:
    • 2 years previous experience in labor and trades required.

    Certifications:
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Communicate in a positive and friendly manner with coworkers, supervisors and general public.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers and supervisor.
    • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Operate a variety of light, medium and heavy construction equipment.
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Knowledge of standard and emergency operating procedures.
    • Inspect and determine status of equipment and unit processes using audio, visual, aromatic and tactile indicators.
    • Interpret and apply City policies and safety regulations.
    • Digging, sweeping, raking various landscaping materials.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Frequent m oderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
    • Frequent s trenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
    • Frequent e xposure to routine office noise and equipment.
    • Frequent ex posure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
    • Occasional m inimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
    • Occasional l ight to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
    • Occasional e xposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
    • Occasional ex posure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
    • Occasional e xposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
    • Occasional e xposure to hazardous conditions that may lead to workplace injury such as working in heights, exposure to fly ash and/or energized electrical equipment.
