    The County of Fresno Department of Child Support Services is offering an excellent career opportunity for individuals interested in becoming a Child Support Assistant.

    Child Support Assistants provide customer service, primarily in a call center environment, by: responding to a high volume of telephone calls; assisting the public with questions related to general child support services and case information; referring calls to Child Support Specialists as appropriate; performing initial interviews to open new child support cases; utilizing locating techniques; and performing related work as required.

    As a condition of employment, candidate's child support case, education, and employment histories, along with any criminal records will be reviewed. A live scan fingerprint check will also be required.

    Please note : The current vacancies require bilingual skills in Spanish. However, the eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies that do not require bilingual skills and for both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

    Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

    Eligible candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:

    OPTION 1 :

    Education : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

    OPTION 2 :

    Experience : Six (6) months of full-time, paid customer service experience obtaining and providing information to the public or conducting business transactions.

    The following information is in addition to the options listed above:

    License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

    Note : Incumbents must obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance as a condition of employment.

    SELECTION PROCESS :

    Depending upon the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and filing requirements, applicants may be scheduled for the process listed below:

    Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months) and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
