    Summary

    This posting may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates for the Truck Driver III position in the Solid Waste Division during the following 1 year.

    The Operations Section of King County Solid Waste Division is inviting applications for Career Service Truck Driver III positions. This could be your dream job!

    About the Role:

    These positions will safely haul refuse material from our transfer stations to our landfill in Maple Valley and complete other associated tasks. You can view a list of the transfer stations at: http://your.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste/facilities/transfer.asp .

    About the Team: The award-winning and innovative Solid Waste Division has been recognized for operational excellence and is now developing partnerships to transition to a sustainable, circular economy to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

    The Division's line of business is comprised of waste prevention, resource recovery, and waste disposal. This robust and dynamic enterprise-funded division has an annual budget exceeding $160 million. More than 400 employees create value for customers across 10 locations, which include eight recycling and transfer stations. Resources are harvested on-site, and refuse is transported by the Solid Waste Division to the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley.

    Job Duties

    What You Will Be Doing:
    • Safely operate a variety of commercial vehicles including truck and trailer, truck equipped with water storage tank and pump, dump trucks with pony trailers, fuel tanker trucks, side dumps, and lowboy trailer.
    • Hook and unhook hydraulic hoses to specific trailers.
    • Experienced driving in a variety of unique situations and weather conditions, safely install tire chains.
    • Load and transport solid waste, trailers, equipment, gravel, water, fuel, and other materials to work areas throughout King County.
    • Perform and document safety inspection of tractors and trailers.
    • Check and refill fluid levels and tire pressure; refuel and maintain vehicle in a clean and operational condition.
    • Document trip activities and complete required trip reports.


    Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

    Qualifications You Bring:
    • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience safely driving tractor/trailer, or similar combinations such as, Class A tractor/trailer combinations with three or four axles towing a unit with three or four axles with a gross vehicle weight of a maximum of 17,000 pounds per axle.

    Required Licenses:
    • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License
    • Possession of a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License with current Washington State Department of Transportation Medical Card and Air Brake Endorsement


    It Would Be Great If You Also Bring:
    • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience driving combinations such as:
    • Side dump trailer, 12 to 14 yard pony trailer
    • 6,000 to 7,000 gallon wastewater tanker
    • 3,000 to 4,000 gallon fuel truck
    • Lowboy trailer for equipment transport


    Supplemental Information

    Working Conditions:
    • Work Location: The work associated with these positions will be located: Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, 16645 228th Avenue SE, Maple Valley, WA
    • Work Schedule: These full-time positions currently work a 40-hour work week. These positions are covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible. The possible schedules for these positions are: 4/10, with one day off between Monday and Friday, or 5/8, Monday thru Friday.
    • Union Representation: These positions are represented by Teamsters, Local 174.
    • Physical Requirements: This job requires you to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions such as high-volume noise, dust and heavy traffic.
