    Internship - Communications Department

    Looking for a rewarding opportunity to get "hands-on" experience with the largest water provider in San Antonio? San Antonio Water System (SAWS) provides a unique environment where you will experience just that! Our Communications Department is seeking enthusiastic interns. The Communications Department interacts with the community to provide information about SAWS projects and gathers feedback. Interns will be working online and be out in the community helping to share information on SAWS construction projects.

    The SAWS Internship Program offers educational and work experience that will provide a base of knowledge that you can build on throughout your life.

    Interns may work around their class schedules committing at least several four-hour blocks of time per week during mid-2025 Spring and 2025 Summer semesters. Interns will need to work during core business hours 8-5 and may be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights and weekends for supporting SAWS events.

    Note: Interns are not to work over 29 hours in a work week (Monday through Friday).
    Interns are considered to be temporary employees, and are therefore not eligible for benefits.

    Job Description

    Job Summary:

    Interns will be working online and be out in the community helping to share information on SAWS construction projects.
    Essential Functions:
    • Using SAWS project management software to post construction projects status.
    • Gathering updates on construction projects from SAWS staff.
    • Taking photos and videos of projects for timely online posts
    • Staffing community events.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing or other related areas.
    • Intermediate knowledge and experience with MS Office programs (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel) and online data entry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be self- motivated and organized.

    Job Dimensions:
    • Contact with internal and external customers in person or by phone.
    • Analytical skills and experience with entering and reviewing data.
    • Teamwork skills and experience for cooperatively working and supporting all customers.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

    Physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, and kneeling, for periods of time to perform job scope. Working conditions are in an office and field environment. While working in the field, individuals may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, heavy traffic, animals, and insects.

    *May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights and weekends for supporting SAWS events.

    This position is not eligible for benefits.
