    THE CITY

    Culver City is Accepting Transit Operations Supervisor Applications!



    THE POSITION

    The selected candidate will be supervising 100+ operators and van drivers and will be working alongside (five) other Transit Operation Supervisors.

    The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform each of the tasks listed or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

    • Monitors transit operations visually, via radio and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system to ensure the provision of effective public transit service. Assists in monitoring transit service effectiveness.
    • Assigns Bus Operators to routes, ensures coverage of all routes, and coordinates with Equipment Maintenance and Fleet Services Division to assure proper fleet readiness and assigns buses to run.
    • Investigates accidents and complaints, compiles data, and prepares relevant reports.
    • Observes Bus Operators and Van Drivers for compliance with established rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for the purpose of training and evaluation.
    • Read and understand maps to provide clear geographical direction. Supervise and lead the work of others.
    • Prepares reports, maintains records, and enforces safety regulations.
    • Assists Training and Safety Instructor in training and evaluating new Bus Operators.
    • Provides information and directions to the public and operating personnel.


    Application Requirements:
    • A completed application must include a supplemental questionnaire and a K-4 printout attached. Alternatively, an electronic version will also be accepted.
    • Incomplete submissions will be disqualified.

    Minimum Requirements - Education and Experience:
    • High school graduation or equivalent.
    • Course work in supervision and/or one (1) year of recent, paid supervisory experience is desirable.
    • Two (2) years of recent experience as a public transit operator.
    • NO traffic accidents reported on the DMV (K-4) printout. If a traffic accident reported on your DMV K-4 printout was not your fault, you must attach acceptable proof to your application to be given further consideration.
    • A conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be disqualifying.
    • A successful prior employment reference check is required.
    • Work Schedule: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.


    License and Certificate:
    • Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license with Passenger Endorsement.
    • At time of appointment, the medical certificate, and California Verification of Transit Training (VTT) card will be required upon hire.


    EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

    Applicants must receive a passing score on all examination components for placement on the eligible list.
    • Written Test (weighted at 30%): Consists of Assessment Test and Written Exercise (Tentatively scheduled for the week of TBD).
    • Performance Test (weighted at 40%): Determines ability to safely perform Transit Operations Supervisor activities. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of TBD).
    • Oral Appraisal Interview (weighted at 30%): Evaluates education, training, and personal qualifications. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of TBD).

    Continuation in the examination process and subsequent placement on the eligible list of a person convicted of a crime depends upon the nature of the conviction and the conduct of the applicant after the offense. Convictions will be evaluated on a job-related basis and will not automatically disqualify someone from further consideration.

    Conditions of Employment:
    • Background/ Reference Check: Upon a conditional job offer, a Live Scan finger printing must be completed with acceptable results. Your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City. Upon hire, employee is subject to further reporting from DOJ via subsequent arrest notification.
    • Pre-placement medical evaluation including drug screen (select positions).
    • E-Verify: Proof of U.S. citizenship, alien residency, or authorization to work in the U.S. will be required at time of appointment.
