Wake County Geographic Information Services as a
GIS Analyst on our
Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) team!
In the
GIS Analyst role, you will be part of a dedicated 4-member team responsible for all aspects of project definition and execution, using
GIS knowledge and best practice project management methodology.
PPM empowers customers through support and service and oversees customer business improvements through definition, analysis and implementation of various
GIS solutions including but not limited to: ArcGIS Online Story Maps, digital datasets, dashboards, desktop analyses resulting in maps and reports, etc. The
PPM team provides critical
GIS data and support to various
Wake County departments and municipalities by working closely with other
GIS Division teams, including Customer Service, E911/Addressing, Property Mapping, and System and Applications.
Wake GIS supports a variety of projects for: Board of Elections - County Manager’s Office - E911 Call Center - Fire Services / Emergency Management / Emergency Operations Center - EMS - Environmental Services - Facilities, Design & Construction - General Services Administration - Housing Affordability & Community Revitalization - Health & Human Services - Parks, Recreation & Open Space - Planning, Development & Inspections - Sheriff’s Office - Soil & Water Conservation District - Strategy, Performance & Innovation Tax Administration - Wake County Public Libraries
The selected candidate for this role will work independently, as well as in cross functional teams for a variety of projects. Key functions include but are not limited to:
Essential Functions:- Manages GIS content in a Content Management System (ArcGIS Online, Web Authoring platform, SharePoint, Esri Maps for PowerBI and/or other emerging technologies as appropriate). Supports users with training, communication and applies governance and policy
- Creates deliverables for Department and public customers that include ArcGIS Online Story Maps, digital datasets, dashboards, field data collection applications, map viewers and desktop analyses resulting in maps and reports
- Creation of analysis products, GIS models and data updates using Esri desktop GIS
- Serve as data steward for assigned GIS datasets and maintain currency of layers, following best practices in alignment with Enterprise Data and Platform Governance
- Maintain SharePoint site content for department project coordination

This role designs and develops innovative geospatial solutions to meet the business needs of County leadership, staff and citizens. The successful candidate is a problem solver, is skilled in building relationships, is service oriented, thinks strategically, and can multi-task in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or related field
- Two years of experience in geographic information systems
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Three to Five years of experience in geographic information systems analysis
- Demonstrated/proven track record working independently to deliver geospatial analysis, including the use of ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro and Esri Model Builder
- Experience developing ArcGIS Online Solutions including Story Maps, Map Tours, Spatial Dashboards, Field Data Collection Applications and Map Viewers
- Experience working in a local government organization
